Computing Color

Designed by Code, Representation

Harvard Graduate School of Design / Representation III / Professors Andrea Hansen, Bradley Cantrell, and David Mah

“Computing Color” seeks to expand the conventional representation of water as a value that categorically falls within a small band of the color spectrum. Using Processing, the pixel values from 600 still images of the Boston Harbor are extracted, sorted, and re-assembled into abstract grids according to their binary equivalence. The resulting pixel grids are animated alongside the original time lapse footage.
