“Computing Color” seeks to expand the conventional representation of water as a value that categorically falls within a small band of the color spectrum. Using Processing, the pixel values of 600 still images captured during sunrise over the Boston Harbor Islands are extracted, sorted, and re-assembled into abstract grids according to their binary equivalence. The resulting pixel grids are animated alongside the original time lapse footage. Color sorting code written in Java/Processing. Soundtrack remixed from Four Tet's "Spirit Fingers."
